DeWitt Theater Company

The DeWitt Theater Company asked me to design a logo for them and I couldn’t have been more excited to do so. I grew up in DeWitt, Iowa and this nonprofit owns and cares for the DeWitt Operahouse Theatre — where I watched countless movies and acted in nearly as many plays. The building holds a very special place in my heart so I was happy to get to play a part of supporting this great organization and the work they are doing. Since organization is mostly behind the scenes supporting the building itself, we wanted to go with a fairly conservative logo that hinted at the idea of a theater but wasn’t too specific on concepts such as “Movies” or “Plays” as the building is used in a wide variety of ways. The square around the name of the organization is meant to represent the structure of a building and the support it gives. The stars on either side make a nod to the magic of movies, plays and other theater experiences without being too specific. The colors chosen are separate from — but complimentary to — the colors on the building’s facade. Here you can see the final logo and also how it looks on a variety of items. Below is an example of the logo with the tagline, and then how the logo and logo + tagline look when reversed out on a darker background.
